Exhibitions by Quilt artists in the World

Quilting Makes the World Happy!
It’s Worldwide Expression!

Quilt Time Festival has invited the three special exhibitions from abroad, which will be shown for the first time in Japan. Two are featuring the hottest quilt artists in the world. Artistic, modern and fabulous quilts will come from France and Taiwan. The other is traditional beautiful embroidery and indigo work from Hungary.

Sheila Frampton Cooper, France, brings the dynamic modern art quilts. The latest work is made especially for this exhibition. Danny Amazonas, Taiwan, shows the quilts looking like real paintings. He made them by piecing tiny pieces like mosaic. Now he is making a large flower quilt of 3 meter long for this festival.

Sheila Frampton Cooper

Energetic quilt artist who manipulates lines and colors

She was born in California and now lives in France. She has taught and had solo exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. Her own unique abstract art quilts constructed with curved lines are colorful and elaborate. They have been received highly and attracted attentions. This is her first show in Japan and she is making a new quilt especially for this Yokohama festival.

Danny Amazonas

Male artist who makes realistic pictures with scraps

Living in Takao, Taiwan, he expresses realistic scenes, flowers and animals by stitching scraps of Kaffe Fasset fabric, a popular designer. His quilts were specially exhibited in Houston International Quilt Festival in 2017 and displayed in American Quilters Society’s Festival in 2016. They’ll be shown in Australia, Swiss and other countries. This is the first time his works are shown in Japan and he is making the 3-meter quilt for this Yokohama festival.

Anna Dolanyi

Beautiful Hungarian needlework.

She received the scholarship for a quilting instructor, Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship in 1997. She is the well-known pioneer of quilting in Hungary and founded the Hungarian Patchwork Guild 30 years ago. One of the main work in her exhibition is the 3-dimensional white work featuring traditional Hungarian patterns made by the 17th century French technique, Boutis, by 50 members of the Hungarian Patchwork Guild. Also exhibited are the quilts of the traditional indigo dyed fabric by the guild members and the valuable traditional textiles and embroideries from Anna’s collection.
